Fire protection for PP twin-wall sheets

Where protective materials are used in sensitive areas, reaction to fire can also be an important factor. Our lightweight, robust PP twin-wall sheets are available in flame-retardant versions for shipbuilding, interior fit-out, renovation and industrial protection applications.

Fire protection built into the material

Flame-retardant PP sheets for demanding applications

In many projects, fire protection is an important part of material selection. The key is to determine which requirements apply to the intended use and which tested product version is suitable.

T-BOARD PP twin-wall sheets are manufactured with flame-retardant properties. Selected versions have been tested and classified for flame-retardant reaction to fire according to EN 13501-1. The flame-retardant additive is integrated into the PP compound during extrusion rather than applied later as a coating.

Especially in shipbuilding, interior fit-out and renovation, as well as temporary floor protection and wall protection, suitable evidence of reaction to fire can be important alongside mechanical durability.

EN 13501-1 explained clearly

What do B-s1,d0 and B-s2,d0 mean?

The European classification according to EN 13501-1 assigns construction products to reaction-to-fire classes from A1 to F. For certain classes, additional ratings indicate smoke production and flaming droplets or particles.

B

Reaction to fire

The main class describes a product’s contribution to fire within the European classification system.

s1 / s2

Smoke production

The s rating describes smoke production. Within this scale, s1 indicates lower smoke production than s2.

d0

Flaming droplets

The d rating assesses flaming droplets or particles. d0 is the best level within this additional classification.

Note: A fire classification is not a blanket property of an entire product family. It applies to the tested version and the conditions of the relevant test and classification.

Tested versions

Clear classification for each product version

Our product information includes specific EN 13501-1 classifications for two defined T-BOARD versions. Other basis weights and custom versions are assessed on a project-specific basis.

Version
Classification
T-BOARD 250 g/m² flame-retardant PP twin-wall sheet
B-s1,d0
T-BOARD 800 g/m² flame-retardant PP twin-wall sheet
B-s2,d0

For other basis weights, formats or custom versions, the required classification must be clarified for the specific project before use.

Understanding the standards

Understanding fire classifications and standards

Depending on the country, industry and project, different terms and evidence for reaction to fire may be required. These can include EN 13501-1, DIN 4102 / B1, M1 or other application-specific requirements.

These systems use different testing and classification methods and should therefore not be treated as directly equivalent. What matters is which evidence is required for the specific application and for which T-BOARD version suitable documentation is available.

European classification

EN 13501-1

European system for classifying the reaction to fire of construction products using main and additional classes.

German classification

DIN 4102 / B1

DIN 4102-1 classifies the fire behaviour of building materials; B1 denotes flame-retardant building materials within this system.

French classification

M1 / NF P 92-507

M1 may be relevant in French project specifications. The required evidence must be checked separately for the specific application and product version.

Project-specific requirement

LPS 1207

Application-specific requirements such as LPS 1207 may also be specified in projects. We check which documentation is available and suitable for the selected product version in each individual case.

Focus on shipbuilding

Lightweight surface protection for work on board

In shipbuilding and refit work, temporary protective materials are used for floors, walls, ceilings, fittings and walkways. T-BOARD combines low weight with practical durability and, depending on the version, is available for projects with defined reaction-to-fire requirements.

  • ✓ Easy to transport and process
  • ✓ Suitable for floor, wall and surface protection
  • ✓ Water-repellent and washable
  • ✓ Cutting and product versions available to project requirements
